If you freeze a track then it renders the sounds of the plugins and unloads them automatically. Other than that, Live is brilliant and I am getting a MacMini M1 soon so I can continue using Ableton Live as my old cheese grater is more than happy to run lots of plugs in Reaper, but Ableton is terrible at CPU handling.Ībleton is excellent at reducing the amount of samples in RAM and CPU if you deactivate or mute a track or sample. The problem with Ableton (and every other DAW) is when you use Reaper and see what proper CPU management feels like, at 60bucks and with a DAW that will run on any OS, so you don't have to chase OS updates. I also tried Bitwig and liked that, but I prefer the plug ins included with Live 11, which are awesome. In terms of flexibility and writting ideas down, Ableton is for me, the best. I also have a Mutant Brain and use it both to send MIDI from my Octatrack but also my DAW. I switched from Logic to Ableton because I am using lots of hardware sequencers and want to create and record a part and play it back, whilst the DAW is looping, without any hickups that misalign my sequencers. Live 11 has comping, something other DAWs have had for ages, but now its on Live 11, so its a big thing for Ableton users. Or is Ableton merely a “you either like it or you don’t”/“it’s whatever you learned to record on” preference thing that isn’t as much of a must as I tell myself it is for recording electronic based music? And spent a bunch of money on sequencing in that pursuit. I’ve always strayed away from needing a laptop present to play with my Eurorack/Elektron stuff. How much easier does Ableton make that? Or doesn’t it? And I’m planning on working diligently in the next few months on incorporating my Elektron stuff more fully with my Eurorack. I’m guessing it’s mostly to do with using it as a sequencing platform for all your gear? And that I get. But other than the ability to see/play sections at the touch of a button, what would you say your favorite thing about it is? I get the layout as being very different than Logic, which is my DAW I’ve used the most. But once I realized there was no comping takes I lost all interest.
